Submission update

Things have been a bit quiet here as both David and I have been massively busy with other stuff. However, we have a bit more time to sort out the submission as the deadline has been extended by a week, to 16th May. Here is what we have come up with so far:

Title: Organisation Lite

Theme: Impact of web 2.0 in organisations

Form: Case study

Three learning points:

  1. The platforms that are available to enable mass collaboration and organisation
  2. The roles that are required within organisations to make the most of the platforms
  3. The worldview required by leaders and managers to enable organisations to succeed in the networked society

Thoughts on any of these bits would be useful. We also need to come up with the 500 word summary of what the thing is all about…

Skills 2.0

There are some interesting points in this PDF about the skills required in the age of web 2.0 from Harold Jarche, including:

Attitude: Accepting that we will never know everything, but that others may be able to help, is the first step in becoming a learning professional. This is an acceptance of a world in flux and that knowledge is neither constant nor fixed…

Learning: Learning professionals can no longer rest on their past accomplishments while the field changes and grows. They should be testing Web 2.0 tools so that they can develop optimal processes to support their organizations. If learning professionals are not setting the example of learning online, who is?…

Collaboration: Through sharing and exposing their work on the Web, learning professionals can connect to communities of practice and get informal peer review. There is no way to stay current with the technology, the neuroscience or the pedagogy all by ourselves.

The Submission

Here are a few details about what we need to put together for the submission to Online Information 08 - which needs to be done by 9th May 2008.

The call for submissions is here, and it states:

The theme for Online 2008 is “Information at the heart of business”, focused on helping business, academia and government survive and prosper in the first real recession of the digital age.

We are looking for exemplar cases from around the world - organisations that transformed their business to be information agile and flexible - fit for any digital challenge. We are looking for the lessons learned one year on from the implementation of web 2.0 tools in the work place. We want to show case organisations are using semantic web techniques to cope with the digital explosion.

Organisation Lite fits perfectly into this, I think.

So what do we need to do?

1. Choose a conference theme that our project fits into:

  • Understanding enterprise 2.0
  • Impact of web 2.0 in organisations
  • Understanding behaviours for improved service delivery in the digital age
  • Information dynamics and information logistics (managing bulk information over time)
  • Digitisation and Digital rights management
  • eDiscovery the new search
  • Information structuring for improved sharing, management and access
  • Library & publishing developments
  • Information professionals surviving in the new age

2. Choose a form that describes what we are doing:

  • Case study
  • Research results
  • Opinion
  • Technology review

3. Set out the three key learning points attendees will gain from the presentation

4. Produce a 500 word presentation outline

We need to make sure we get this stuff right so that the conference organisers take us up on our offer to present!
